Söguvinur is not a teaching tool and does not replace home reading or children's books. It is a fun addition that uses proven methods to make bedtime reading even better.
Science of Reading
Science of Reading is a collective term for decades of research on how children learn to read. Research shows that reading is based on five pillars: phonological awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and knowledge of text types.
Söguvinur utilizes this with age-appropriate vocabulary: simple repetitive patterns for the youngest children, descriptive sentences and dialogues for older children. The difficulty of the text adapts to the child's age automatically.

Dialogic Reading
Dialogic reading is a methodology where the parent turns from listener to inquirer. Instead of just reading a text, the child is given questions that encourage reflection and deepen understanding of the story.
Söguvinur automatically creates questions that appear for parents at appropriate points in the story. Thus, bedtime reading becomes a conversation that enhances málþroska and critical thinking.
"Hvað heldur þú að gerist næst?"
Barnið lærir að spá um framhaldið og tengja saman atburði sögunnar.
"Af hverju heldur þú að hún hafi gert þetta?"
Barnið æfir að setja sig í spor annarra og skilja tilfinningar og ástæður.
"Veistu hvað 'djarfur' þýðir?"
Barnið kynnist nýjum orðum í merkingarbæru samhengi og eflir orðaforðann.
Þroskaþema í hverri sögu
Each theme in Söguvinur is linked to a specific developmental goal: empathy, self-confidence, perseverance, emotional intelligence and more. This is woven naturally into the story so the child experiences the growth as part of the adventure — not as a lesson.
After the story, parents get a short pointer about the developmental theme and how they can strengthen it in daily life, e.g. with a conversation or play.
Markmiðsorðaforði
Research shows that children learn new words best in a meaningful context. Söguvinur selects 4-6 keywords from each story that are slightly above the child's age limit but understandable in the context of the story.
The goal vocabulary appears to parents on the last page of the story so that it is easy to discuss the words together and reuse them in daily conversation. Thus, the words stick better in the child's memory.
Viðbót, ekki staðgengill
Söguvinur is a fun addition to bedtime reading. It does not replace libraries, home reading or traditional children's books — it adds to them with a personal experience that sparks the child's interest in reading and gives parents tools to make reading more interactive.
